First meeting in Bulgaria, Ruse
The first meeting on Erasmus+ project “MIND your health” short-termed exchange was held from 27th October to 2nd November 2019 in Vazrazhdane Secondary School in Ruse, Bulgaria.
On 28th October 2019 fifteen students and seven teachers from Poland, Turkey and North Macedonia were welcomed by the head-master Mr. Stanislav Georgiev in Vazrazhdane Secondary School. According to an old Bulgarian tradition they were met with bap and salt mixed with different spices by students from 1st, 4th, 5th and 9th grade dressed in folk costumes and from 10th grade wearing school uniform.
In the school hall the program – greeting to the guests – began with the introduction of the school flag, the anthem of Europa and a presentation of European symbols prepared by Meglena Hristova. It continued with the songs “A song for the good”, “A kite” sang by students from 4th “b”grade, the fairy tale “The Grandfather and the Turnip” performed in English by students from 4th “d”, and Bulgarian folk songs “Boryano, Boryanke”, “Dena”, “Na megdana” performed by students from 1”b”and 5”b”grades.
The program continued with modern dances performed by dancers from the club “Mood”/”Nastroenie” led by the Chairman of the Bulgarian Dance Sport Federation, Ivan Despotov.
Ivanela Ivanova and Lui Coopmans led in English the program.

Our city Ruse was presented with the video of the Municipality of Ruse “Ruse free spirit city”. The school coordinator Meglena Hristova was prepared a presentation about Vazrazhdane Secondary School which was shown in English by Preslav Ivanov and Kaloyan Ivanov from 10th grade. They both with their classmates help had made a short video ‘Ways to deal with stress” and presented it to the guests in the seminar after the formal part.
On the first day of the meeting the guests from Poland, North Macedonia and Turkey visited school facilities – classrooms, rooms for recreation, computer labs, library, canteen, teachers’ rooms.
In the afternoon they walked by the Danube river and in the town centre.
On the next day the students and their teachers watched two lessons. The first one was held in 4”c”grade with their English teacher Desislava Stoyanova who used brain games and Quizalize on the topic “Friends of Health”.
The second English lesson was in 7”b” grade with teacher Milena Venkova and the topic here was “Bulgarian folk costumes” using WEB2/WEB3 tools.
Seminars “Our ways to reduce stress” were held with students hosts and guests by teachers from Poland and Turkey.
In the afternoon all the participants visited Basarbovo Rock Monastery.
On the first day of the meeting the guests from Poland, North Macedonia and Turkey visited school facilities – classrooms, rooms for recreation, computer labs, library, canteen, teachers’ rooms.

On 30th October 2019 the students from Poland, Turkey and North Macedonia together with their coeval took part in English and IT lessons – in 6th grade with teachers Milena Nedelcheva and Milena Venkova on the topic “How to create an e-book”; and in 8th grade with teachers Iliana Nedelcheva and Tsvetelina Radeva on the topic “Modal verb Have to/ Don’t have to”.

A presentation for 1st November – (an official holiday) The Day of National Leaders and Vazrazhdane Secondary School Holiday was shown by students from 10th grade and had prepared by Mariana Tsviatkova who organized a club “Keep the Bulgarian Traditions” in our school. At the end of the presentation the students – Meglena Hristova’s alumni gave presents to their guests – puzzles thematically connected to the topic.
It was the first time that this memorable date, which is also our school holiday, was celebrated in this way in front of foreign guests and connected with the theme of learning – fun, pleasant and relaxing.
On 31st October 2019 we visited the Rousse Regional Historical Museum and the Eco Museum. In the afternoon there were an official meeting in the University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev”. The guests learned about the history of the University and their work on the European educational program Erasmus+. They visited the Chancellor’s office, the Interactive Museum and Kaneff Center.

The last, fifth day of the short-term exchange of group of students we visited Veliko Tarnovo. We showed how we learned about the glorious past of our country – the crafts and the culture, by visiting historical and archeological places and being able to combine the useful with the pleasant.
In the Old Bulgarian Capital the guests visited the fortress Tsarevets, the Multimedia Centre Tsarevgrad Tarnov. They walked along the Samovadska Bazaar, saw the authentic crafts, bought Bulgarian souvenirs from the small craftsman’s shops and took pictures in front of the monument Mother Bulgaria.
In the evening after this exciting trip to the Old Capital, the head-master of an official ceremony gave everyone a Certificate of Participation and souvenirs from the most beautiful city in Bulgaria – Ruse.
We wished each other new meetings in Istanbul, Skopje and Poland.
